Alabama Spousal Support (Alimony)

Alabama divorce courts do not automatically award alimony. The divorce court judge will consider a variety of factors in making a decision. Fault (spousal misconduct or having an affair) is only one factor; it does not guarantee that alimony will be awarded. Length of marriage, earning ability and employment history, educational background, and health of the parties are all important factors that will be considered.

The divorcing couple can also make spousal support decisions by themselves through negotiation or mediation. The lawyers at Ables, Baxter, Parker, Pippin & Avant, P.C. are prepared to help you find an agreement or to take your case to court to argue for spousal support.
